There's a program called GDS that will allow you to view GIFs on a C128's
80-column screen if you have 64K of VDC RAM. However, it doesn't support
dithering, so if you try to look at real pictures, they really look crappy.
Cartoon images look okay.

There's also a program called VBM for use with the ACE operating system. It
features 640x491 interlaced viewing of black & white bitmap images if you
have 64K of VDC RAM. However, its images must be in its own spacial
format. A C-language conversion program for Unix and MS-DOS systems for
converting XBM and PBM images to the special form is available, but you will
need your own means of converting GIF and JPEG images to XBM or PBM
formats. Most Unix systems should have some kind of support for this,
supplying either "pbmplus" or "giftoppm", "ppmtopgm", "pgmtopbm", and
"djpeg". Try "man pnm" for more information.

There are also a number of images in the special VBM format available from
FTP host "ccnga.uwaterloo.ca" in directory "/pub/cbm/graphics/VBM128/images".

Dithered images look very good when viewed with this viewer, IIDSSM.

Keep on Hackin'!
