ACEterm is an application for the ACE operating system for the C128 and C64.
It is available for free from FTP host "ccnga.uwaterloo.ca" in directory
"/pub/cbm/os/ace" in files "ace14?.sfx".

ACEterm is a no-frills high-speed terminal program that requires a SwiftLink
ACIA cartridge and works best with a high-speed modem. It features VT-100
emulation and has an extremely large capture buffer if you have expanded
memory. It's a real programmer's kind of program and it is best suited for
use with Unix systems.

Also included in the ACE package is a fast bitmapped 80-column screen for
the C64, a very high-speed RAMdisk, a number of file utilities (including
uuencode/uudecode), and a (you guessed it, high-speed) custom upload/
download protocol. The upload/ download protocol requires a C program to be
compiled on a Unix host in order to work, and no standard file-transfer
protocols are available.

Compared to the other terminal programs, ACEterm beats them hands-down for
raw performance, by two or three times for both displaying text on the
screen and uploading/downloading (and by much more than that when using the
ramdisk). Both Desterm and Dialogue have fancy menu interfaces, but with
ACEterm you will have to enter your modem's "AT" commands directly.
(Personally, I prefer this; I can type "atds" and be on my way long before
fumbling through a menu system). ACEterm's VT-100-emulation power appears
to be between the other two; Desterm's is better and Dialogue's is not as
good. The others emulate other terminal types but ACEterm does not.
ACEterm also has hardware flow control for use with high-speed modems;
Dialogue has it too but Desterm does not. ACEterm is Public Domain,
Desterm is Shareware, and Dialogue is Commercial software.

The next release of the system, due in mid December, will include a powerful
text editor and support for 115,200 bps with a hacked SwiftLink on a C128.
(I'm using it now, and with a 28.8kbps phone connection, I can download 4832
cps to the ramdisk for a text file).

Keep on Hackin'!
